Love is romanticized to a ridiculous degree but, by definition, it’s not unconditional. Quite the opposite.
People love you because you provide something for them: sex, comfort, fun, intimacy, protection, dependency, etc.
If you stop providing what they need, they will eventually stop loving you. Not in a day, not in a week…but they will stop.
So love is very much transactional in nature. But we don’t like to think about it that way…because that cheapens it, rather than elevating it.
