The World’s Strangest Case of Fraud and Forgery
In 2014, Indian police arrested Mohammad Lukman (48) and Bashir Mulla (62) on charges of fraud and the forgery of government documents. However, one month into the investigation, they were released by court order after bail totaling 600,000 rupees was posted on their behalf.
Investigators soon discovered that the court order itself was a forgery—it had been delivered by an unidentified man posing as a police officer.
Furthermore, the bail money posted for their release also turned out to be counterfeit, and the name of the lawyer who allegedly deposited the funds was fictitious and did not appear in any government registries.
Indian police are still searching for the accused, who are believed to have fled to an Arab country using forged passports and visas.
Hooray! Everything is read.
